Hello there Seattle
Well what a weekend that was, it has only taken me weeks to get this blog together.
But here we go, Wednesday the 27th of October Nikki and I drove down to Vancouver on a rainy afternoon after she had finished work with a mandatory stop at Tim Hortons. As we drove into Downtown Vancouver we had to meet a potential buyer for her feather earrings, but after finding the right rendez-vous point and not being conversed into buying fireworks instead since the streets in that area are littered with signs trying to sell fireworks. After this we headed off to watch the Social Network which overall was a good a movie, I found the technical aspects of the story was quiet plausible considering movies like this are normally dumbed down for the greater audience. We then crashed for the night.
As the day slipped away completing erins it soon turned into the night where we found ourself's with Cynthia at the Red Room watching a great opening dubstep set by a local guy dressed up as Elvis really putting on a show then Vaski hit the decks. His set was really good, but I hate it how since he is the headlining act the speakers raise themselves a few extra decibel so you can really fell the wobbles and bass go through your body you instantly think it's really good, but I was convinced the first act was better but maybe I'm bias since after 2.5 hours of heavy dubstep my ears where starting to hurt. There wasn't a lot of people at the gig so it gave us enough room to really get our grove on and get down to the dubstep, the only complaint was that there wasn't free water so Nikki being the responsible designated driver she is just had to put up with being parched for the entire night.
After waking up with a combination of a filthy headache and sore ears I lounged around and made a start to Nikki's website for her earrings. Then with a combination of more erins and cheap downtown pizza we picked up Nikki's passport in preparation for the planned border crossing to Seattle the following day. After the day of erins we made it to Metro Town where we picked up Cynthia again and headed out to all you can eat late night sushi in Richmond. I managed to make the biggest fool of myself by saying nice ribs when I was eating teriyaki chicken my taste buds must have been really playing up, I then managed to eat everyone else's sushi but what I had ordered myself. After stuffing ourselves stupidly full we rolled all the way home and had and got a slightly early night.
We rose early and left the house by 7.30AM if I remember correctly, we then set off on our journey across the border. I had no idea Vancouver was so close to the border, I knew it looked close but I didn't think it was just 20 minutes until I had to pay $6 just to cross the border. This border crossing was one of the more interesting I've ever had since the guy firstly asked who I was with, insinuating that I was with one of the girls I was travelling with, then he made fun of me for coming from an Island and saying that the girls must only be with me for my money but it was all fun and games and we where off on our trip. First stop was in Bellingham where we waited for the mall by sitting in some free leather chairs and then did some shopping, then hit the road again till we got to the outlets. It was amazing how many stores there was in literary no where, if I had more money I would have bought a few pairs of shoe's they where selling for $45 -$90 for some of the best nikes I had ever seen. Then we continued onto one of the biggest wallmarts I had ever seen, It was maybe 5-6 times the size of the local Big W store in Squamish. It had everything from groceries, liquor to big screen TV's. I used my alternative ID to purchase some liquor with no problems the liquor was so cheap $5 for a bottle of wine and $8 for a 6-pack of coolers. I've concluded America is all about big everything for cheap.
We then hit the road again and headed into downtown Seattle using google maps to navigate, after many no left turns we arrived at our destination where we didn't have a reservation but after 15 minutes 30 minutes on the street corner opposite Star Bucks we then had a reservation. We check in then stated getting ready into our hotel room then Cynthia and I went for a walk to Nikki's car to pick up some missing gear for her Halloween costume. Then out of the blue we got clipped by a car on the side of the road as we where crossing the street, antatas and both of our faces hit the ground. We then quickly scrambled to our feet to see the car turn around the corner and disappear into the sunset. We then headed back to the hotel to tell Nikki about our adventures then in a blur Cynthia was too drunk to come and Nikki and I had to leave her behind. This bit gets a bit blurry but I will tell you what I remember to be the best of my knowledge. We headed out of the hotel and down one of the main streets and then asked a couple of construction workers where the venue was, after a 10 minute conversation we got some vivid directions and headed off on our adventure. We then be friended two black guys who sold us tickets to the gig for $30 less than what the door was asking, but they where already validated. But we where lucky enough just to be let in by the lazy validators. We headed to the front of the first stage and chilled out to the music for the bit, then I just lost Nikki. She just vanished into thin air, I waited for about 10 minutes then decided I wasn't going to waste my night looking for her so I headed to the front to see Steve Aoki with Lil Wane telling everyone to clap, which just drove me nuts. He then stayed on for the next set and the next telling the crowd what to do. Which just drove me nuts, so then I thought I would head out for a little bit. Then I saw the second stage, I had no idea there was a second stage. I had been waiting at the main stage for the Infected Mushrooms DJ set and Nero, but missed both. After this I stumbled back to the hotel and found a philly cheese hot dog for $5, but it was one of the best things I've bought from a stand on the side of the footpath ever.
I then snoozed till Nikki woke Cynthia and I up at 7am when she got back from hospital, apparently she was too drunk and taken to the hospital across the road from the concert but since she had been on drip all night she wasn't hungover. We then headed down to breakfast, myself in PJ's and Nikki wearing a tutu and fishnets we looked class as we made waffles and ate bagels. After this we had a quick nap till 10.45 then rushed and packed up and cleaned our room. It was a mess , fake blood every where, then white and black mark up all over the carpet and every where. I scrubbed it with the towel and then stained that. I hope Nikki didn't get changed extra on her credit card cause we did try our hardest to scrub it clean. We then hit the road and headed back Vancouver, where at the Canadian border we where asked if we had anything of value or any liquor then they where like eh and waved us though with no checks. I <3 Canada.
More pictures to come.
Launching Bloggle v2
I thought it was time I gave the site a new look ready for this up coming winter season where I promise to Blog some more.
I miss blogging, the main reason blogs die in the first few months is because they have no audience. But we did, we had 20 email subscribers which will hopfully stay with us.
Stay tuned for a lot of new posts over the next week.

A weekend in a city (Prague)
My morning didn't start with pancakes, but it did start early. I have really come to dislike early mornings, after getting used to late starts during this current holiday. Aside from this I headed down to the railway station with my grandfather where I bought my train ticket, as my grandfather was seeing me off a Czech girl started talking to him and insisted that I could sit with her for the first part of the train ride until she got off. She wore a bright pink blazer and was carrying flowers, she was just so different looking to the rest of the people on the platform. I really like talking to people who don't speak English as their first language. We chatted for the best part of the trip with her broken English and my lazy English it went reasonably well. I just regret not asking for her phone number or at the lest given her this blogs address.
My train arrived at platform 3 Praha main station 8 minutes early where Milu wasn't waiting for me but by chance after wondering around lost for 15 minutes I walked into her. We headed down towards old town square to see some sights, Milu read a list of sights off and pointed them out to me. After that we headed down the slightly congested streets following the crowd to Powder Gate and Charles bridge. I must say you can read as much as you want about these places but actually seeing them with your own eyes is completely different, they are just a couple amazing old structures that Prague had to offer. As you look across Charles Bridge it is decorated with restored statues, also anything that was gold colored on the bridge people couldn't resist to touch but they didn't seem to know that upon touching the gold parts on the statues your chances of falling pregnant greatly rose, or maybe they did. Also littered along the sides of Charles bridge are wagons selling pictures, souvenirs and those 30 minute sketches. Every time I see one of those old guys doing the portraits I always chose against them at the time but then regret it afterworlds, cause one would look really nice attached to this blog.
After safely crossing to the other side of the bridge we headed up the stairs to where Prague Castel and the Cathedral are situated. It was a slight maze to get inside the walls and through various archways but we eventually reached the middle where the beautiful cathedral was located, it was so tall and big, buy big I mean I couldn't take one picture of it. It took four photos to capture just oneside. But considering it was 100's of years old it was in extremely good condition. After two hours of self touring around this amazing castle and cathedral we thought we best head back to out hostel in the middle of Prague.
We got back to the hostel to find a troll guarding the entrance (horribly mean receptionist) after filling out a couple pointless forms each and myself writing down my drivers license number instead of my passport number cause I don't carry important documents on me. But she seemed to think I was some kind of gypsy that had managed to swim/walk from Australia to Czech Republic and wouldn't let me stay so we had to go back to an alternative plan that Milu already had just encase something did go wrong. I'm so lucky I was in Prague with her or I would have had to sleep on the street that night. After a couple over priced beers we headed home for an early night since we knew we would have an early start.
We rose early and headed to the bus terminal and started our trip to Chesky Krumlov after a long trip for 3 hours we arrived. As we walked to the town square we found a nice Asian tourist to take a holiday snap of us (see attached picture). First we walked around the village and took plenty of tourist snaps, one of the best pictures I just missed taking was of a pack of Japaneses tourists surrounding a pram taking photos of the baby. But after all this traveling and walking we where ready for lunch, after searching around for a while we found a nice cheap place located right next to the river where we where the only customers at the deserted restaurant.
After a traditional Czech lunch of potato dumplings, bread like dumplings and a variety of different meat covered in a gravy we headed up the hill to the castle. We went for a simple guided tour in English, it was nice looking at all the well restored rooms and especially the ballroom which was very neatly painted to which it looked like it was full of people. We also learned that the kings and queens from the times they lived in castles used to sleep sitting in bed. This was because they didn't want to spoil their expensive hair styles or because lying down looked like they where dead. This also must have had something to do with their growth because the fourposter beds on display are about half the length of my bed at home. This castle had been well restored, considering it once had 3 towers where it was only left with one due to restoration processes. After the tour we wondered the gardens stopping at a revolving theater seating, it could apparently spin completely around holding a couple hundred people (see attached picture). After this we walked to the island in a pond, which must I say was a complete and utter disappointment. It was slimy smelly pond with a very small island and it just didn't look very appareling. After this disappointment we crossed paths with another troll, I really thought trolls only excised in fairy tails but apparently some are still roaming through out Czech Republic. Well anyway we walked up to the gate of the self guided tower tour at 4:30:30 and apparently the people in front of us where just early enough and quick enought to get past the troll. But as mulise and I got there the troll quickly jumped out from underneath the bridge and insisted it was closed, well not from underneath the bridge but from it's cabin and proceeded to lock the chain across the pathway. But we didn't let this dampen out spirits so we headed down to the river for a nice walk. As we where walking along the river we spotted a hangout for the locals, I could smell the cheap beer from a 100 meters away. We rolled up and had two pints of the final local lager brewed just over the fence, as we drank some of the other locals sounding a TV where celebrating the Czechs making the Gold medal game for the IIHF. The Czechs scored in the last 6 seconds and brought the game into over time where neither team scored then they won the shootout. I drank many more beers and then we ordered dinner, for 140 crowns we got half a chicken each and two beers, which was an amazing deal. The only downside was that no cutlery was provided so we had to eat it medieval style. After stuffing our selfs full of chicken we headed back to the bus for an interesting 3 hour bus trip where the driver got lost multiple times on our way back to Prague.
We then headed out to the biggest night club in Eastern Europe, a 5 story night club build in an old spa place, most of the dance floors where inside old pools. This meant you had to walk down some narrow stairs to get in to them which seems to get tricker and tricker as the night went on. The first floor of the night club featured radio hits which was a bit of hit and miss for me playing some good songs but others just weren't my thing. On the next floor it was dance music or as they liked to call it club anthems, which was just generic club music which just wasn't flattering but they did have some nice props to dance on. They where raised tiles with LED's shinning down to box you inside of the tile, all I can say is it would have been a much better floor if it was rocking some filthy dub step like what I was used to from my previous months spent in Whistler. The next floor featured oldies music on a classic 80's dance floor complete with lit up squares, this floor had the greatest variety of people. Some as young as 16 and up to 60 which was quiet a shock to me coming from the dance floors in Whistler. The next floor featured R n' B or as they called it in the club black people music. Which was Milu's favorite floor, I don't know the names of the tra
cks that where being played but the pool was full. The final 5th floor featured the chill out room which was littered with couches and a DJ maybe even spinning records of some nice chilled electronic music. We also noticed this area seemed to be the juniors hang out. I felt old, I think the mean age was about 16 up there. So apprently they don't even ask for ID at the biggest clubs so it isn't just a trend from the bars. Also you could tell the DJ's just weren't having much fun, none of them where moving to the music or even looked like they where having a good time. After spending what felt like half an hour in the club but apprently it turned out to be 3.30am so Milu and I headed on a mission to McDonald's after 20 minutes we eventually found it after walking back though old town square and settled for two big macs.
Sunday was just spent looking for generic I went to Prague t-shits and hunting down what could be said to be the best ice cream I have ever eaten at Wenceslas Square . It was strawberry and banana, they where so good I just had to have two. We also stopped in at the torture museum which made me genuinely feel sick in the stomach looking at all the ways they tourtured people all those years ago. After this we got some great tourist information from a man at the Prague city information center. We headed down to the river where we caught a boat, but who would have thought boats where a part of the public transport in Prague but apparently they are included with our 24 hour transport ticket so we made the most of it and went on a round trip, we even got a photo with the sailers to prove it. Also during the boat trip I glimpsed the dancing house so I've included a photo of that too since it really stands out compared to all the old buildings. I also saw the only beach Prage had to offer, it was different but it was still beach. The day could have been a lot less painful if we had some where to store our bags but alas we didn't so we just battled on. Then in no time we where racing from tram to underground to main station to catch my train back to Usti Nad Orlici. I then said my goodbyes to Mulise and I was off. I really didn't think about it but it would be the last time I will see her for a long time, well unless she comes to Australia or I come back to Czech Republic again. Wow that was a quick weekend in a city.
end of the season
May 24th and the mountain has closed. Oli and I have both been blessed with working for Whistler and Blackcomb in the second snowiest season ever recorded.
Spring in Whistler to be honest is a very strange time. Too hot for snow but still too rainy to do much else unless your into mountain biking of course. A lot of people head elsewhere like our old roomies or like Oli escape to Czech Republic for the month also I am currently unemployed or as I prefer to call it funemployed!
You may be wondering what i do with myself these days with all this funemployment time and no snowboarding available. Well lately my activities have included; bear watching, walks to the lake, a couple of Vancouver trips with Nikki, sleeping on Nikki's couch (maybe a bit too often), making a few new friends for the summer, many many goodbye drinks for old friends, meeting our new roomies Meg and Jess from Toronto and counting down the days till I start work again.
My next job starts in a few weeks when the glacier re opens for summer skiing. Yay snow again! I will be working in a little restaurant called Hortsmans hut on the top of Blackcomb mountain. This along with the warm summer weather and Oli's return i am very much looking forward to.
Peace Ruby x

All good days begin with pancakes, so I set my alarm for 7.30 and walked to IHOP for those who don't know what IHOP stands for it's International House Of Pancakes. After a my breakfast of sausages, hash browns and eggs. Then finished with enough sugar distributed via two pancakes to last me for the 6 months, and with that I was off to the airport. I rushed there with two hours to spare which I thought wouldn't be enough to jump through hoops at the American boarder located in Vancouver airport but after finding it only took me 15 minutes filling out the right forms and emptying the entire condense of my carry on luggage onto trays to send through the xray machine. During this process I gazed across and watched an old man who just couldn't work out why they wouldn't let him through with his swiss army knife. After this I was let into the departing lounges as I headed to Gate 92 I grabbed some souvenirs for my family in Czech republic as I got ready for the hour and a half wait for my plane to Salt Lake City. As I boarded my flight I was sure it was the wrong one, it was only 27 rows long and two seats on each side on the isle, this plane was smaller than one that crosses the bass straight. Anyway as we landed in Salt Lake City I remember the hostess saying that you can only smoke when you are safely inside the terminal in the designated smoking areas and I thought this sounded a bit weird and she must have meant outside in the designated smoking areas. But sure enough once I got to my departure gate there was a viewing area to watch smokers, it looked like a fish tank full of people choking down smoke whether it was their own or someone else's it didn't seem to phase them.
Cheap pizza, iHOP and giant beds. Where else could I be other than Vancouver
My morning started with getting a message from Nikki asking if I would like pancakes for breakfast this was an offer I couldn't refuse. I know if I have pancakes for breakfast it's going to be a good day. So after loading myself with pancakes and black tea I heading back to my unit to finish packing my bags and say goodbye to Ruby, Katie and our two illegals John and G-unit (Georgia) . I then headed down to the bus stop to wait for the Grey Hound to Vancouver.
After reaching Vancouver city I quickly hussled to the the best pizza shop on Granville Street passing two guys preforming in the street, normally I wouldn't have looked twice but these guys where different. One was just playing guitar and beatboxing with something that enabled him to repeat his beatboxed beat and the other guy was walking around the street freestyling about anything he could see. After chocking down my two slices of pizza and a pop for 3.75 including taxes and heading back down Granville Street to main station I saw I smallest and youngest homeless person I've ever seen. She holding a sign saying "16 homeless and needs money for food" but really she meant to say to buy crack but anyway it was plausible enough for me. She was well dressed, new sneakers and really didn't look like she had spent a night on the street but I walked up to her and dropped a loonie into her takeaway coffee cup, first she was startled and looked up at me then just smiled as I walked away.
I don't know why I'm adding this but yesterday I bungee jumped for the first time, it looked so daughting but after a couple liquid courages I was ready to jump. It was so worth the cheap thrill of free falling 60 meters before a rope caught you.
Now here I am at Travelodge Hotel in Vancouver, this time I'm travelling solo. My room is great, it only cost me $55 dollars + TAX for two double beds and I don't have to share the room with anyone else. The only problem I have now is which bed I should sleep in.
After a failed attempt at going to iHOP (All you can eat pancakes all day everyday) being closed after a 15 minute walk
I will again try again tomorrow morning when I wake up at 7 but this time I'm sure I will make it.
Tomorrow I should be in Prague after a few hours of transit. Stay tuned to bloggle.us since I now wont be neglecting it.
Anyway peace
_Ollie
Olympics over.
Firstly I will start off with sorry for the lack of posts. It has bee quiet hectic during the Winter Olympics. I myself had a job at Whistler Creakside working next to the finish of the downhill events which was quiet an experience. I for once never thought it was possible to get so bored from just sitting around and getting paid since my other job never stops, but apparently you can. The Olympic days started for me at 4.30am and sometimes wouldn't finish till 5.30.
The Olympics changed Whistler so much, it transformed into a busy city. I could almost go to say a snow town version of Las Vegas. Simply because a lot of the places decided to start operating 24 hours and the bus service transformed from 30 busses to a 150 just for the month of the Olympics.
17 Days Until the Olympics
Whistler village has so much foot traffic today, when I walked through today I could barley move compared to when I normally walk though the village during the day you could throw an exercise ball and not hit anyone. This morning when I woke at 6.30am I felt so sick and could barely move so I drifted back off till 7.30 to Ruby waking me up and asking me what time I had to work. I only had 30 minutes to get to work and that was my travel time, so I rang the sick line cause I was genuinely sick.
Today I have spent the majority of the day mopping around my room. I started watching a movie called The Lion Share its a quiet interesting movie about a boy and a girl, its one of those fringe movies that might not be everyone's cup of tea but it is a great watch.
I also phoned my mum this morning for a quick chat before she headed to work this morning, it had been over a month since I last spoke to her.
Anyway back to the Winter Olympics. I picked up my accreditation on Wednesday night with Tom. He got to pick up a pile of gear including ski pants, ski jacket and other assorted Olympic merchandise. I was extremely jealous since I knew I would not be getting anything like this since I'm not a member of the ski packing crew. I get to pick my uniform up on Wednesday the 3rd of February at 1pm at Creakside. Also the best part about having the Olympic accreditation is that I can catch any bus for free before and during the games.
This is all for now, stay tuned for some other blogs that are
next post
Today was again a great day snowboarding first of all with just Ruby and headed up Red Chair Express and riding some of the runs from the top of there then after an early lunch we meet with Dave and Aaron. We hit the run of the day a couple of times, with myself taking a pretty hard fall where I could see stars. I'm going to get a helmet tomorrow after this happening for the second time in two days. It really can not be healthy.
"How are ya" in a generic Australian accent.
So this morning I thought I would enjoy a sleep in on my day off and then maybe hit the slopes midday for a few runs. Ollie however thought it was a much better idea to force me out of bed to get ready and then go wait at the lifts before they even opened. I was not impressed.
I was taking too long to get ready in my sleepy (not hungover at all) state so Ollie left with out me and we decided to meet at Glacier Creek later on. After I finally got ready I did a couple of runs and then bumped into Ollie at the top of a lift. Although half the mountain was closed due to strong winds we found some nice powder to have fun falling in on the few runs available. After an hour of riding i was feeling super hungry and frozen from falling in the powder so we headed to Glacier Creek get some nice healthy pizza and to defrost ourselves. I loosened off my boots a bit and that's when it hit me. I had shin splints and they were super painful! I knew if I kept riding all day they would just get worse so I headed home to rest my feet. Ollie was still super keen so he said he would meet me at home later. I got home at 11:30, seemed like such a waste of a good snow day. I was jealous of Ollie out riding in the pow pow. 15 minutes later Ollie limped in the door holding his knee. He had some how managed to hurt his knee badly whilst staking and like me was forced to retire to the couch.
In conclusion it was and awesome powder day. We were both back before 12. fail.
